Clemson's elite defense just lost a key player after a big hit on defending Heisman winner Lamar Jackson.

Tanner Muse, a starting safety for the Tigers, was ejected after a targeting call for a hit on Jackson.

By the letter of the rule, it is probably the correct call; Muse does hit Jackson in the head. However, considering how low Jackson was already, it was probably difficult for Muse to avoid hitting him where he did.

Here's the play in question. Judge for yourself.

Either way, Clemson is down a key starter. Muse had 11 tackles through the first two games of the season for the Tigers, fourth most on the team, and played 97 total snaps, good for second on the roster behind just K'Von Wallace. This is a serious loss against a player the caliber of Jackson.
