Clemson is considered by many analysts to be the favorite in the ACC. However, former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer believes there is one team in particular that could ruin the Tigers’ title hopes.
During this Saturday’s edition of Big Noon Kickoff, Meyer and the rest of the crew discussed Clemson’s outlook for the 2020 season. Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, Urban Meyer and Brady Quinn all have the Tigers making the College Football Playoff.
Although he thinks Clemson has all the tools necessary to make a championship run, Meyer does see one team capable of knocking off Dabo Swinney’s squad this fall.
Believe it or not, Meyer thinks Notre Dame has the best chance of ruining Clemson’s national championship dreams this season.
Here’s what Meyer had to say on Big Noon Kickoff, via 247Sports:
“I like the Irish and I like the Irish for several reasons,” Meyer said. “In preseason we talked about when you’re in difficult situations what carries a program? Number one is leadership. They have a great coach in Brian Kelly and a very strong culture that’s established. Their schedule is very manageable. Remember the ACC 10 years when Miami, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Louisville were top 15 programs? That would’ve been a different story. They’re down now. I think they’re going to pound people. I like the Irish to stand tall in the end.”
Notre Dame’s football team is entering its first season as a member of the ACC.
It’d be quite the inaugural season for the Fighting Irish if they can dethrone the Tigers. In order for that to actually happen, Ian Book will need to be able to outperform Trevor Lawrence when the two teams meet later this year.
Clemson and Notre Dame will square off in November. That game might end up having playoff implications.
