On Thursday night, the reigning national champs were in action against a conference opponent.

The Clemson Tigers opened their 2019 college football season against Georgia Tech. The Tigers entered the contest as a heavy favorite, and despite an early three-and-out, Clemson is handling business.

Star quarterback Trevor Lawrence scampered in for a short touchdown run early in the first quarter.

However, the biggest fireworks came from star running back Travis Etienne.

Arguably the most-talented running back in college football, Etienne's athleticism was on full display tonight.

He took a handoff late in the first quarter and took it all the way to the house for a 90-yard touchdown run.

Check it out.

He evaded a few defenders before outrunning the competition to give Clemson a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter.

The 90-yard touchdown run tied the longest touchdown run in program history.

Banks McFadden (1939 vs. Presbyterian) and Buck George (1951 at Furman) both accomplished the feat before Etienne.

The long touchdown run is nothing new for the electric tailback. He averaged over eight yards per tote during the 2018 season.

Trevor Lawrence might be the favorite for the Heisman Trophy, but Etienne doesn't want to be counted out just yet.

The rest of the game can be seen on ACC Network.
