Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence is spending at least part of his first college football offseason playing intramural basketball with his teammates. He wound up taking umbrage with an opponent’s screen in tonight’s game.
In the video below, posted by the Barstool Sports Clemson account, Lawrence misses a three-pointer and tries to play defense on the man who grabbed the rebound. As the player begins dribbling upcourt, a teammate slides in and attempts to set a pick on Lawrence.
That’s when things took a turn. Lawrence did not like being picked, and he responded by shoving the guilty party twice. The second shove lands the unlucky opponent on his backside.
At that point, cooler heads prevail and the situation is quickly brought under control.
Sure Trevor was a little rough, but you don’t set a screen on T-Law. You just don’t. pic.twitter.com/CBMeQvE8VN

Now, reacting like this to a simple screen might be a bit extreme in a vacuum. Sure enough, there are plenty of people making fun of or criticizing Lawrence on social media.
However, he also has his share of defenders, who think the screen was out of line.
set a screen on trevor lawrence 80 feet away from the hoop? lame. https://t.co/G0xvkGwUAs

Trevor Lawrence getting mad at a kid screening him is understandable. There are people you can hit and there are people you can’t hit. The guy who carried your team to a national championship is on the “can’t hit him, no matter what” list.

Don’t be throwing intramural screens on Lord Trevor Lawrence. Know your role kid. https://t.co/UmILQbS99s

1. Who sets a screen 80 feet from the basket in IM
2. Why is Trevor Lawrence even playing IM Basketball
3. That dude had it coming https://t.co/veFH4tDQmc

The overriding point here is a simple one. What the hell is Trevor Lawrence doing playing intramural basketball in the first place?
Several Clemson players, including star receivers Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross, are also playing intramurals. We would bet that tonight was Lawrence’s last game, and his teammates might be done as well.
