ESPN put out its first edition of the ESPN300 recruiting rankings for the football class of 2018 today. Here’s where each of Clemson’s ESPN300 2018 commits ranks.
ESPN, which is one of the four major recruiting services, published its most notable recruiting list for the class of 2018 for the first time today. Here is how the rankings shook out for each of the each of the ranked players joining the Clemson Tigers next year. Six of Clemson’s eight players made the ESPN300:
Five-star DE Xavier Thomas (Bradenton, FL)
Rank: No. 1
Five-star QB Trevor Lawrence (Cartersville, GA)
Rank: No. 3
Four-star DE Justin Mascoll (Snellville, GA)
Rank: No. 34
Four-star ATH Derion Kendrick (Rock Hill, SC)
Rank: No. 72
Four-star DT Josh Belk (Richburg, SC)
Rank: No. 72

Four-star OLB Mike Jones Jr. (Bradenton, FL)
Rank: No. 197
Things like national championships often pay the most dividends in the next full recruiting cycle, and while Clemson did quite well for itself in 2017, the Tigers could fight for the No. 1 class in 2018. The ESPN 300 release for that year shows how hot Clemson is on the trail right now. Six of the school’s eight commits make the list, including two of the top three players in the country, one of whom is the top quarterback (Lawrence).
Dabo Swinney has already recruited very well at Clemson. He may be ready to kick it into a new level and attempt to enter the rarified Alabama/Ohio State tier. Clemson’s class is currently ranked No. 2 in the ACC and No. 6 in the country, per 247Sports.
