Coach K has taken part in dozens of Carolina-Duke matchups, but few featured a comeback as massive as the one his Blue Devils pulled off at Dean Smith Center yesterday. His team overcame a 13-point deficit with four minutes remaining, tied the game to send it to OT at the buzzer and then won in OT after being down five with 15 seconds remaining.
Such an impressive performance warranted a special reaction from the Duke coach, and he did not disappoint.
Speaking to the media after the game, Coach K called it “an incredible game.” He heaped credit on the Tar Heels for playing great, the UNC crowd for being into it, and had special praise for UNC star Cole Anthony.
Via The Devils Den:
“Absolutely incredible game. To have an incredible game means you have great performances by both teams and Carolina was outstanding. I thought they were going to run us out of the gym; their crowd was great—I don’t know what’s happened [to them] the whole year, but they were Carolina tonight. They were fantastic… Proud of my guys… Terrific win for us and I know it’s tough for them. I thought they played great—not good, they played great and Cole is every bit as good as everyone has said he is. He was a big-time player tonight.”
The win for Duke lifts them to 20-3 on the season. It’s the 24th year in a row that the Blue Devils will finish with at least 20 wins.
And getting there at the expense of their arch-rivals has to feel especially good.
