A few short weeks ago, Duke at Michigan State would’ve been a No. 1 at No. 3 matchup. This college basketball season hasn’t been kind to the teams on top, though.
The Spartans began the season atop the AP Poll, and opened with a tough 69-62 loss to then-No. 2 Kentucky, a team that has suffered its own shocking early season loss. More recently, Tom Izzo’s club fell to a Virginia Tech team that many thought would be rebuilding this year.
Neither of those is as shocking as Duke’s sole loss. The Blue Devils dropped a game to mid-major Stephen F. Austin at Cameron Indoor Stadium on an incredible coast-to-coast buzzer beater.
After all of that, Louisville has taken the place as the nation’s No. 1 team, and these two are on either side of the Top 10 cut line.
Michigan State hosts Duke at the Breslin Center tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET. Michigan State enters as a 6.5-point favorite in the game.
ESPN’s Basketball Power Index also likes Sparty as a solid favorite in this one. The metric gives MSU a 69.7-percent chance to knock off Coach K and company.
Along with Louisville vs. No. 4 Michigan, and this is one incredible Tuesday night of college hoops.
Both games in this double-header will be broadcast on ESPN.
