Duke Cancels Dominican Republic Trip Because Coach K Needs Knee Surgery

The Blue Devils were scheduled to go later this month.

Duke was supposed to take a week-long trip to the Dominican Republic from August 17-24.

While they were in the D.R., the Blue Devils were scheduled to play a pair of exhibition games against the Dominican national team. However, there has been a change of plans.

Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski announced today that the trip has been canceled, due to the fact he needs right knee replacement surgery. Krzyzewski will undergo the surgery this weekend.

The 70-year-old Krzyzewski has missed games due to medical ailments each of the last two seasons, and has also undergone multiple surgeries. It wouldn't be shocking to see him retire in a few years, but for now, he appears focused on healing and getting himself back in time for the season.

We wish him luck and a speedy recovery.
