ESPN says this is the best college basketball job in North Carolina.
They take their college basketball very seriously in North Carolina. The rivalries along Tobacco Road are fierce, and none burn brighter than Duke-UNC.
There's plenty of debate over which job is a better one, Duke or UNC. In the eyes of ESPN, the choice is Durham over Chapel Hill.
ESPN's Myron Medcalf named the top college basketball job in each of the 50 states, using a ranking system of "expectations, fan fervor, salary, job security, facilities, tradition, institutional support, staying power and recent level of drama."
He's got Duke over UNC, and here's why:
Mike Krzyzewski's mastery of the one-and-done recruiting pool allowed Duke to maintain its place as one of the strongest college basketball programs in the country. He's arguably the most powerful man in college basketball with the resources, reputation and support to compete for national titles until the day he retires. And he's not dealing with an academic scandal that could damage his program.
There you have it. Medcalf even makes note at the beginning of the piece that the looming possibility of an NCAA scandal is the reason UNC isn't tops in its territory.
