Here's What Roy Williams, Coach K Were Doing The Last Time Duke And UNC Lost At Home On Same Day

Saturday was a day to forget for Duke and North Carolina.

The No. 4 Blue Devils fell at home to second-ranked Virginia, 65-63, while the 10th-ranked Tar Heels also lost at home to unranked NC State in overtime.

These results yielded the ultimate rarity: a day when these two arch-rivals lost in friendly confines. The last time Duke and UNC lost at home on the same way was back in 1973.

On February 21, 1973, Duke lost 74-50 to NC State at Cameron Indoor Stadium, while North Carolina fell 102-92 to Miami (OH) at old Carmichael Auditorium.

Think of how many times the two schools have both played at home on the same date since then. Pretty crazy streak.

Here's how long ago February 21, 1973 was. Roy Williams was a high school basketball coach at the time, while Mike Krzyzewski was serving in the Army.

Coach K served a five-year stint in the Army after graduating from West Point in 1969. He finished up in 1974 and then joined Bob Knight's staff at Indiana.

Roy Williams, meanwhile, was not only coaching boys basketball at Black Mountain (N.C.) Charles D. Owen High School in 1973. He was also the boys' golf coach, and served as the AD.

Duke and UNC won't play at home on the same day for the rest of the season, so a new streak will be starting.
