Marvin Bagley III is projected to be one of the top picks in the NBA Draft one week from today. The versatile lefty may have the most refined offensive game in the draft.
Bagley was a star at Duke in his lone collegiate season, but not because of his defense. The former five-star recruit doesn’t have a strong reputation on that side of the ball.
In fact, Bagley’s ineffectiveness on defense was a major reason why Duke uncharacteristically played a 2-3 zone as its primary defense for much of the season.
However, Bagley seems to be more confident in his defensive ability than evaluators are. At least that’s what he is conveying publicly.
He told reporters today he considers himself a “great” defender.
Marvin Bagley, who worked out for the Hawks today, wasn’t thrilled about having a reputation as a bad defender. “I think I’m a great defensive player,” he said.

Can’t blame Bagley for believing in himself, but we beg to differ with his self-evaluation. He has the potential to be a competent defender, but he struggled at Duke.
If Bagley improves his defense, he could end up being the best player from this draft. His offensive game is that good.
The 2018 NBA Draft will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on June 21.
