Despite entering the night tied for the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft, only one of three teams landed inside the top-three.
The New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers entered Tuesday night with the best shot at Duke’s Zion Williamson, but saw their dreams fade.
New York ended the night with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft.
After the lottery announcement was made, one NBA insider revealed what happened to Zion Williamson – who was at the lottery reveal.
According to Marc Spears, Williamson was “QUICKLY whisked out of the room” after the Pelicans were announced as the winner.

According to Spears, the former Duke star was “rooting” for the Knicks to land the No. 1 overall pick.
Reports entering today suggested the Knicks were already considering trade packages as if the team had already landed Williamson. Trades for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis were rumored throughout the day.
Instead, New Orleans walks away with the No. 1 pick in the draft and New York leaves with no Zion.
Williamson’s marketability takes a significant hit by not landing in New York, but his chances of reaching the postseason increase dramatically – excluding free agent moves to be made.
