The athleticism and brute strength of Duke basketball star Zion Williamson is well-documented. But what he recently did at a game of pickup basketball is only adding to his mystique.
Playing with some students at the Brodie Recreation Center on Duke's campus, Zion attempted a self alley-oop off the backboard. But while bringing his full weight down for a dunk, Zion nearly tore down the basket.
While Zion's powerful dunk didn't break the rim or the glass behind it, it did cause the entire structure to bend backwards. Afterwards it had to be taped up - but not before someone posted a sign that said, "ZION WAS HERE."
It's possible Zion may not have noticed - or taken seriously - a sign on the basket that insisted "No dunking."
Zion Williamson exploded onto the scene back in November in a dominating performance against Kentucky. His stock would continue to rise throughout the year as he guided the Blue Devils to an ACC Tournament title.
Despite multiple double-doubles in the NCAA Tournament, Zion and his teammates were beaten by Michigan State, 68-67 in the Elite Eight.
The Duke superstar is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, regardless of which NBA team wins the draft lottery.
He's a human highlight reel to be sure.
