Eighth-ranked North Carolina topped No. 1 Duke tonight 88-75 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. However, almost all of the talk has been about Zion Williamson’s injury.
Williamson went down with a right knee injury when his left shoe blew out on Duke’s first possession of the game. His night was over after 36 seconds.
After the game, Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski issued an update on Williamson’s health. He said the freshman star suffered “a mild knee sprain” and that they would know tomorrow how long he’ll be out.
Winning head coach Roy Williams was asked about Zion’s injury in his post-game press conference.
Williams said he “hated to see it” and called it “a huge blow for them.”
“Be honest, when the big fella goes out of the game, that changes everything. I hated that for him he’s a wonderful kid. It was a huge blow for them”

Credit to Williams for the good sportsmanship here. He’s happy about the win, no doubt, but no one wants to see a talent like Williamson go down like that.
With the win, Williams passed Gary Williams for the most all-time wins vs. the No. 1 team in the AP poll. He’s done it eight times.

Duke has until Saturday to regroup without Williamson before playing at Syracuse. UNC, meanwhile, will host Florida State on Saturday.
