On Monday night, Duke point guard Tre Jones left the team's shocking loss to Syracuse early, with a sprained AC joint.

The injury can keep a player out for weeks, but the news in the days after the injury has been mostly good.

It sounds like the freshman point guard may return earlier than people expect.

Even today, ahead of a giant game against undefeated Virginia, there were some whispers that Jones may be able to go.

However, Duke will have to wait a bit longer for its floor general to return.

Moments ahead of tonight's game, which tipped off a few minutes ago, Duke officially ruled Tre Jones out.

Duke will miss Jones' elite perimeter defense against a deliberate and very efficient Virginia offense.

From The Chronicle:

Freshman Tre Jones will not play for the Blue Devils Saturday night when top-ranked Duke hosts No. 4 Virginia at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Jones did not stretch with the team and was not in uniform during pregame warmups, he will be replaced in the starting lineup with Marques Bolden and Jack White as Javin DeLaurier was benched.

It is a big loss in this battle of No. 1 vs. No. 4, but it is more important that Duke has Jones back in March.

Based on what Coach K has said since the injury, he should return well before that.

Duke leads early 12-7.
