The New England Patriots have a Gronk-sized hole that they’ll have to fill at some point. Fortunately, there’s an athlete out there with the size and skills to fill that hole. The problem is, Zion Williamson isn’t exactly a football player…
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman tweeted at Zion suggesting he could fill their open tight end spot. Using a photoshopped image (and not a bad job if it was Edelman himself who made it), he portrayed Zion as holding a first-round draft jersey with his name on it.
Zion is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft this summer. However, plenty of football coaches and analysts have suggested that Zion could become an NFL star even without having played a down.
Tight end is the position that has seen the most success stories from former basketball players.

Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez, Chargers Pro Bowler Antonio Gates, and five-time Pro Bowler Jimmy Graham were all prolific college basketball players who played some football as well.
Zion is not lacking for football experience either. He played quarterback in his youth, and there are plenty of old videos of him demonstrating his football skills.
But without having played even a down of college football, even a super-athlete like Zion might have some trouble adjusting to the NFL.
There is also the matter of Zion not being NFL Draft eligible this year, even if he wanted to switch to football…
