College football fans, specifically Florida State fans, can't be thrilled that they're going to miss out on a chance to see Jameis Winston start a key ACC game against Clemson, even if it is for good reason. Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney can probably breathe a bit easier about this weekend's game with the Seminoles knowing that Winston will be on the bench for a half, but even he admitted that he is upset about the actions that led to the benching.
“We’ve been through that (on this side, too). … Teams are bigger that individuals. Individuals play, teams win. It’s disappointing. That was my first reaction, disappointment for his teammates, disappointment for his coaches and all the people who love and care about Florida State University. It’s a great program, because you hate to have distractions like that.”
Swinney will have Sean Maguire to gameplan for in the first half. While he is probably no Winston, Florida State is still stacked with talent, so Clemson has its work cut out for it.
