Year Two under Willie Taggart didn't get off to a great start for Florida State as it fell short to Boise State in Week 1. It's a gut-wrenching loss for the program and its fan base.
Last year, the Seminoles went 5-7 under Taggart. The hope was that they'd begin the new season with a statement victory over the Broncos.
That wasn't the case for Florida State on Saturday. Instead, the ACC program watched Boise State storm back in the fourth quarter to seal the deal on a comeback victory.
Following the 36-31 loss for Florida State, Danny Kanell tweeted "Not gonna lie. That one hurt. Gut check time."
Kanell spent his collegiate career with the Seminoles before being selected in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL Draft. He won the ACC Player of the Year back in 1995.
It's a brutally honest reaction from Kanell, who refrained from criticizing his former team.
The only bright spot for the Seminoles is that James Blackman looked impressive under center. He finished the game with 327 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Florida State can't afford another loss next week when they take on Louisiana-Monroe. It'll be at Doak Campbell Stadium and one of the team's most favorable matchups of the entire fall.
