Emails obtained by the Tampa Bay Times show Florida State fans criticizing the hiring of former Baylor assistant coach Kendal Briles.

Kendal Briles, the son of former Baylor head coach Art Briles, was an assistant for the Bears from 2008-16. That put him on Baylor's stuff during the program's sexual assault scandal, in which dozens of players were accused. Art Briles was fired as a result of the scandal and Kendal Briles, while not directly implicated, left the program, too.

Several Florida State fans have expressed concern with the hire.

From the report:

Emails obtained by the Tampa Bay Times through a public-records request show unease and even disgust among fans and alumni as FSU considered adding the former Baylor assistant. While the notes to Thrasher and interim athletic director David Coburn don’t speak for the entire fan base, they provide a window into how some Seminoles supporters viewed the move before his $1 million-a-year contract was finalized on Dec. 23.

“Since 2013, I have defended my school against those that say FSU doesn’t care about sexual assault, and was willing to look the other way when winning mattered,” one woman wrote to Thrasher.

There are several emails like that, obtained by the Tampa Bay Times.

Kendal Briles is a brilliant offensive mind and Florida State's program is in need of a boost, but the hiring is clearly coming with some criticism.
