Jimbo Fisher Confirms Former 5-Star Linebacker Matthew Thomas Is Ineligible To Play For Florida State This Season

Matthew Thomas, a redshirt sophomore linebacker and former five-star recruit for Florida State, will not be playing for the Seminoles this season.

At his press conference this evening, FSU coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed the report that surfaced yesterday: Thomas is ineligible to play this fall.

Thomas is recovering from a shoulder injury and wasn't expected to contend for serious playing time.

Thomas came to Tallahassee, Fla., as an extremely high-rated recruit in 2013. He redshirted that season after injuring his shoulder. In 2014, he made three starts and tallied 26 tackles.

Florida State opens its season Sept. 5 against Texas State.
