Florida senator Marco Rubio is one of many Republican candidates for President, but he's not letting that pursuit get in the way of his college football allegiances. Rubio, who is a Florida alumnus and attended Miami for law school, went on the KXnO Sports Fanatics show on 1460 AM in Iowa to talk football and politics, and took a swing at Gator/Hurricane rival Florida State in the process. This is basically the radio spot version of a "safety school" chant.
FOX Sports writer Clay Travis transcribed the bit about FSU.
"Look, I don't have anything against Florida State," Rubio said. "I think there has to be a school where people who can't get into Florida can go to college. And so that's why we have Florida State."
His FSU alumni constituents may not like that much, but at least he didn't toe the line to be safe. There's no room for that in college football fandom.
