Listen: Steve Spurrier Turned Down Chance For South Carolina To Open 2016 Season vs. FSU At Citrus Bowl

South Carolina generally plays a pretty solid non-conference slate every year, with Clemson on the schedule every year, and other solid opponents like North Carolina, East Carolina, and UCF appearing fairly frequently. When given the chance to open the 2016 season with Florida State in Orlando, however, Steve Spurrier politely declined that opportunity. Spurrier was on the radio with Tim Brando to discuss scheduling, and dropped that nugget:

">@TimBrando that S. Carolina was invited to open '16 at the Citrus Bowl vs FSU. He declined https://t.co/T7JauVxMdp— Patrick Netherton (@PTNetherton)

Ole Miss wound up taking that spot for the 2016 opener. The Rebels and 'Noles should be a fun one, but perhaps Gamecocks fans would've liked the challenge as well.
