ESPN's Football Power Index is "a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season." Essentially, it looks to figure out which team is the best in college football based on how it has performed so far this year.
The FPI was updated today after Saturday's slate of games, and according to its projection, the four best teams in college football are all from the SEC. Per FPI, Alabama is the best squad in the nation, followed by Texas A&M, Auburn, and Georgia. As for Florida State, the best team in America according to the AP and Coaches' Polls, it is FPI's fifth best team in America, and the best non-SEC squad.

It is important to remember that this is simply a projection, and that it doesn't mean that these are definitely the four best teams in America. Still, this is an intriguing way to figure out the best squads in the country, and there's an excellent chance that at least one of these teams are competing in the CFB Playoff at the end of the year.
