David Padgett appears to be emerging as the leading candidate for the Louisville job.
Earlier this week, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino was placed on administrative leave - but essentially fired - following the FBI's investigation into the school's men's basketball program. Many have wondered what kind of direction the Cardinals will go in at the head coaching position in the aftermath.
According to a number of reports, former Louisville player David Padgett has emerged as the leading candidate for the job. Corey Evans of Rivals is even reporting that Padgett will be named the interim head coach in the coming days.
Padgett, who played for both Kansas and Louisville in college, has been a Cardinals assistant since 2014.
If Padgett is the guy, it's unclear when Louisville would be able to announce the news. Pitino is technically on administrative leave, and since he's supposed to be given 10 days notice before being fired for cause, the school might have to hold off another week before making an official decision. We'll keep you updated.
