Jeff Greer Names 7 Possible Interim Coaching Candidates For Louisville

Here are seven possible names to take over for Rick Pitino.

This morning, Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino was placed on administrative leave, without pay.

The news comes on the heels of the Department of Justice arresting 10 people, including four basketball coaches, in a corruption case.

Louisville was named in the investigation, although Pitino was not charged with any wrongdoing in the case.

Jeff Greer of the Courier-Journal, listed seven possible candidates for the job.

  • David Padgett, Louisville assistant coach
  • Tom Crean, former Indiana coach
  • Scott Davenport, Bellarmine coach
  • Kenny Payne, Kentucky associate head coach and former Louisville player
  • Ralph Willard, former Louisville assistant coach
  • Thad Matta, former Ohio State coach
  • John Thompson III, former Georgetown coach

Greer also mentioned former Louisville player Jerry Eaves as a potential candidate, but Eaves said he has not been contact about the job and he reportedly has no interest in the job.
