Lamar Jackson Heisman odds are now the best in college football.
Jackson, Louisville's dynamic quarterback, cemented his status as the Heisman Trophy favorite during the Cardinals' blowout win over Florida State.
Online sportsbooks now reflect that reality.
Following a 362 total yard, five touchdown performance against the then-No. 2 Seminoles, Jackson has taken over as the player with the best odds to take home the prestigious award.
Sportsbook.ag has Lamar Jackson Heisman odds at -200, meaning bettors would have to lay $200 to win $100 on the bet. That is well above Ohio State's J.T. Barrett, who sits at +650, as well as Christian McCaffery (+700) and Deshaun Watson (+750).
VegasInsider.com has Jackson at 6/5 (+120), with Barrett at 6/1, and Watson and McCaffery tied at 8/1.
Before the Florida State game, Jackson had entered the conversation, but OddsShark had him tied with Barrett and Deondre Francois at +600, with McCaffery at +400 and Watson at +500.
College football fans will remember that Leonard Fournette had a similar stranglehold on the Heisman race this time last year, but eventually tailed off once LSU's offense struggled in SEC play. It seems unlikely that Jackson will continue on his torrid statistical pace—no one is scoring five or six touchdowns per game—but he doesn't have an SEC West schedule to deal with. Louisville does have Clemson and Houston coming up this season, however.
If Jackson performs at anywhere near the level he did in the Florida State game against the Tigers and Cougars, this is his award to lose. Of course, it is a long college football season, and awarding the Heisman after three weeks generally doesn't work out.
So far, however, Jackson has certainly earned his plaudits, and there is no one all that close to his crazy level of performance through three games. If he keeps it up, we'll be witnessing a season for the ages.
