ACC men's basketball media day is set to take place next Wednesday in Charlotte. Rick Pitino will not be going. The Louisville coach, on the advice of counsel, has decided it would be best to skip the event in the wake of his program's alleged sex scandal.

The Cardinals will still be sending players, though: graduate transfers Damion Lee and Trey Lewis and junior Mangok Mathiang will be attending the event.

Pitino's decision to skip the event is seen as cowardly by many. The Louisville coach is getting blasted on social media.

Pitino's decision isn't surprising and, to a certain extent, it makes sense. If he's been told by the school not to comment on the scandal, he needs to stay away. What's unfair is that the three players - two of whom have been in the program for less than a year - will be repeatedly asked questions about the scandal, while their head coach stays away.

Someone needs to speak for the program at media day and if Pitino isn't going, it shouldn't be the players. Send the athletic director.
