Report: Alabama Was Interested In Devonte Fields

Former TCU defensive end Devonte Fields, once the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, has been cleared to play at Louisville after resolving an issue with the school's admissions department, according to ESPN. But if things hadn't worked out with the Cardinals, perhaps he'd have had another option. ESPN's Max Olson is reporting Thursday morning that Nick Saban and Alabama had expressed interest in the star defensive end.

Why, as Olson notes, is this a bit crazy? Well, it's not surprising to hear that Saban had interest in a talented transfer - that makes sense. But it is a bit baffling that he had interest in a player with a past that includes domestic violence accusations, given the failed experiment (and subsequent criticism) with then-Georgia transfer Jonathan Taylor.

Don't be surprised if Saban is forced to answer questions regarding Fields - even if talks never got that serious.
