Another college football head coach was spotted on Miami's campus this afternoon in the wake of Mark Richt's retirement.
Former Hurricanes' defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, who's accepted the Temple head coaching position, was seen on campus.
The Miami Herald reported the news:
Former Miami Hurricanes defensive coordinator Manny Diaz was seen by the Miami Herald walking away from UM’s Hecht Athletic Center about 2:30 p.m Sunday, a few hours after coach Mark Richt announced that he was retiring from coaching and about an hour before athletic director Blake James was set to address the news.
Diaz would have been one possibility to replace Mark Richt as head coach, but Diaz coached his final game with UM at the Pinstripe to become the new head coach at Temple University.
Diaz is now the head coach at Temple, but some have speculated that he could be a candidate for the Hurricanes' head coaching position. He was arguably Miami's top recruiter and was responsible for several of the team's top prospects.
Miami's AD didn't say much when asked about Diaz this afternoon.
“Manny Diaz? I haven’t any comment on Manny,’’ Miami AD Blake James said. “I guess Manny is on his own schedule.’’
Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal, Syracuse head coach Dino Babers and former NFL head coach Rex Ryan have been named potential candidates.
