Miami's football program wasn't searching for a new head coach for long in the wake of Mark Richt's decision to retire.

The Hurricanes are reportedly hiring former defensive coordinator Manny Diaz, who left the program at the end of the regular season for the head coaching job at Temple.

Diaz will be leaving Temple after only a couple of weeks on the job.

The Athletic's Bruce Feldman first reported the news of the hire.

"BREAKING Manny Diaz will be the new head coach at #Miami, per source," he reports.

Yahoo! Sports' Pete Thamel had reported earlier this evening that Diaz was getting strong consideration for the head coaching gig. "Source: Temple coach Manny Diaz is being strongly considered as next coach at Miami. He spoke to UM officials today. Buyout is significant at $4 million, but UM officials know they’d be getting a top defense and strong local ties," he reported.

Stay tuned for an official announcement on Miami's hiring of Manny Diaz.
