Miami is down one of the key members of its elite front seven for the rest of the season: defensive end Demetrius Jackson.
Jackson, a redshirt junior in the defensive line rotation for The U, had surgery on Monday after suffering an injury to a “right lower extremity” during Saturday’s big win over Virginia Tech.
The timing is especially tough, considering Miami’s impending match-up with Notre Dame and its elite rushing attack.
Jackson tweeted about the injury on Monday.

Jackson does not start for the Hurricanes, but he is a major contributor. He has 18 total tackles on the year, tied for a team-high in tackles for loss with 7.5, and is second on the team with 3.5 sacks.
The Hurricanes host the Fighting Irish at 8:00 p.m. ET on Saturday night. The game will be broadcast on ABC.
