Tate Martell's transfer to Miami was one of the bigger story lines of this college football offseason. The former Ohio State quarterback is participating in spring ball now in Coral Gables.
Martell is still waiting on word of his eligibility for next season. He is petitioning the NCAA to play right away, but has not been informed of a decision yet.
Miami head coach Manny Diaz was asked about Martell's status following today's spring practice session. He didn't have much to say, preferring to focus on his team as a whole.
"We're not keeping secrets," Diaz told reporters. "When we know, you'll know."
Martell served as Dwayne Haskins' backup in Columbus last year. He decided to leave Ohio State in the wake of Georgia quarterback Justin Fields transferring to the Buckeyes.
OSU is backing Martell's appeal to play right away.
For Martell's personal sake and for the sake of the Miami program, hopefully the NCAA makes a decision soon.
