Miami (FL) vs. Arkansas State - Game Time, TV Schedule, Line, Preview, Predictions

Miami bounced back from an ugly season opener loss to Louisville with a 41-7 win over Florida A&M last week, but plenty of questions remain in Coral Gables. Brad Kaaya continues to be shaky under center for the Hurricanes, and was replaced by senior transfer Jake Heaps after an up-and-down 177 yard, two touchdown, two interception outing against the Rattlers. Kaaya is holding onto the quarterback job for the time being, but he'll be facing a solid step up in competition this week, as the Arkansas State Red Wolves come to town.

Arkansas State has won 28 games in the last three seasons and have gone to three straight bowl games. Last week, they gave Tennessee a real challenge at Neyland Stadium, eventually falling to the Volunteers 34-19. Miami will need a very strong effort to hold off an Arkansas State squad that would love to land an early signature win in 2014.

Betting Line: Miami -16.5 via 5Dimes

Prediction: No matter how Miami's quarterback play looks, the Hurricanes will almost always have the best player on the field in running back Duke Johnson. Johnson ran for 97 yards on just nine carries, and scored a touchdown against Florida A&M last week, and while it may be hard to judge that performance based on the opponent, that type of stat line is fairly normal for him.

Arkansas State is no pushover, however. Quarterback Fredi Knighten has plenty of room to improve as a passer, but he is a dangerous dual-threat player, and leads the Red Wolves through the air and on the ground. Expect Miami to pull out a win here, but that 16.5 line is very attractive for the underdog. The Hurricanes will take home a comfortable victory against a good team, but Arkansas State should cover the spread.
