When it comes to how they feel about their alma mater, few people wear their hearts on their sleeve the way Michael Irvin does. He loves "The U."

Before Miami's season-opening loss to Florida on Saturday night, Irvin went viral for a fiery pump-up speech he delivered. Even though the game didn't go Miami's way, Irvin offered his thoughts on the loss on Twitter this morning.

Though he congratulated Florida on the win, Irvin said the Hurricanes "gave it" to them. He remains bullish on his team's future as well.

“Let me send all you peeps out there this message to make sure you understand. I was hurt that my boys didn’t win that game Saturday night. Congrats to Florida for winning that game that we gave y’all a****. We gave it you. But let me tell you, more than hurt, I am encouraged. We had two freshman tackles, one a redshirt freshman and the other one a real freshman. Two freshman tackles. We’ve got a young quarterback and we still had that game in the midst of our hands.

"A few (less) mistakes, we would’ve walked away in victory. I’m so encouraged about the future. I hope the rest of those guys are encouraged about the future, because Miami is back. In the midst of a loss, I still way we back. That’s why I’m still wearing my U gear. We will never die, we will never quit and we will never go anywhere. So eat that on your breakfast, lunch and dinner plate.”

Irvin does have a point that Miami has a lot to take solace in. The defense looks as strong as advertised and Jarren Williams showed some promising flashes in his first career start at quarterback.

The offensive line is very much a work in progress though. If the 'Canes are to make a run in the ACC Coastal, they will need to get that group in order.
