On Tuesday, Auburn defensive back Tim Irvin announced that he will transfer from the program. 247Sports reports that three schools stick out for Irvin, and he has an interesting connection to each of them: East Carolina, Miami, and Texas. Irvin is a Miami native, and nephew of former ‘Cane great Michael Irvin, and has another uncle coaching on the Pirates’ staff. As a high school recruit, Irvin was once committed to Texas as part of Charlie Strong’s “Florida Five.”
According to 247Sports, Michael Irvin has already reached out to Strong.
Wrote Bartow about Irvin and Texas: “His uncle, Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, has already been in touch with Longhorns coach Charlie Strong discussing the possibility of bringing in his nephew. “
The report also indicated Irvin has early interest in Miami, where his uncle played, and East Carolina, where his other uncle, Sedrick Irvin, works as an offensive analyst.
Irvin was a four-star player as a recruit, and clearly a guy that Strong wanted to pull out of Miami back in 2015.
Over a year later, Strong may still land another member of his once-vaunted Florida Five.
