We've got some sad news out of Greensboro, North Carolina from earlier this week. Top basketball recruit Josh Level, a junior being recruited by schools such as Oklahoma State, Wake Forest and NC State, collapsed during the final few minutes of his high school game Tuesday night.
Level was immediately given CPR by a nurse on-hand, though she was never able to resuscitate him. He was rushed to the hospital, but pronounced dead shortly thereafter. From News & Record (which includes a quote by Josh's father, Joseph).
“We came around the corner and we saw all those people working on my son,” Joseph Level said Wednesday. An hour later, doctors at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center pronounced their son dead.
Shockingly, a preliminary autopsy didn't show any obvious cause of death. It is not known if further tests will be done.
Judging from the below highlight reel, Level had great potential to be a star in college basketball. Regardless, it goes without saying that he was taken too soon.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Josh's family and friends during this trying time.
