Carolina Wins Third Straight In ACC Play

Heels keep the Yellow Jackets winless in the ACC.

Score: North Carolina 79, Georgia Tech 63

Stars:North Carolina:Reggie Bullock 17 Pts, 6 Reb. Georgia Tech:Kammeon Holsey 18 Pts, 9 Reb.

Story: The Heels win their third straight in the ACC, improving to 3-2 and 13-5 overall, while keeping Georgia Tech as the only team in the ACC without a win in conference play. The high-scoring trio of Reggie Bullock, James Michael McAdoo, and P.J. Hairston combined for 46 of UNC’s 79 points. The Yellow Jackets struggled to find their rhythm and the bottom of the net all night long, with their only consistent scoring option coming in the form of bench player Kammeon Holsey who had a game-high 18 points.

The crowd inside the Dean Dome was already fired up after seeing the score of Miami’s blowout win against Duke, and the Tar Heels came out strong and kept everyone on their feet. UNC never trailed in the game and held Georgia Tech to just 36% shooting and forced 19 turnovers. UNC countered being outrebounded by the Yellow Jackets by winning the assist battle 19-8. And for the first time in ACC play, the Carolina walk-ons got a little action, which is always a good sign for the Heels moving forward.

Also, junior Leslie McDonald, who had been sidelined with a knee injury, was suspended by the team for the next three games because, according to Coach Williams, he “did not do what we expect of our student-athletes.”
