Kenny Smith and Charles Barkley are friends and longtime colleagues, but they have a rivalry going tonight. Their alma maters are facing off in the Sweet 16.
Smith played his college ball at UNC, while Barkley starred at Auburn. With these two programs facing off in the South Region semifinals tonight, both guys have their school spirit on full display.
Barkley has a blue-and-orange tie for AU, while Smith is decked out in his old Carolina game jersey (or at least a replica of it). There are team-colored balloons in the background of the Turner Sports set, and of course some friendly trash talk.
At one point, Barkley pulled out the trump card for many fans of SEC schools: football.
He told Smith the Tigers would be "stomping" the Tar Heels if they were playing on the gridiron.
Barkley is right, cf course, but his former team is holding up rather well on the hardwood tonight. Auburn leads UNC 41-39 at halftime after what was an incredibly entertaining first 20 minutes.
The second half of this game will be starting soon on TBS. The winner will meet either Houston or Kentucky in the Elite Eight on Sunday.
