Muffet McGraw and Roy Williams have both reached the summit of their profession on multiple occasions. That has to make what each of their programs is going through this season even harder to deal with.
Two years removed from a national championship and a year removed from a national title game appearance, McGraw’s Fighting Irish women are 10-16 overall and 5-9 in ACC play. The program is set to miss the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995.
As for Williams, his Tar Heels are only 10-15 overall and an even worse 3-11 in ACC competition. North Carolina won the national championship three years ago and was a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament last year. This March, they’ll be home come tourney time for the first time in a decade and will likely miss the postseason altogether for the first time since 2002.
Prior to tonight’s men’s basketball game between UNC and Notre Dame at Purcell Pavilion, McGraw and Williams posed for a picture together. It is going viral on Twitter, largely because of the caption McGraw used.
“SUPPORT GROUP MEETING of former champions on handling the adversity of this season Yo @SteveKerr … we are holding a spot for you,” McGraw tweeted.

Kerr and the Golden State Warriors are laboring through the NBA season with the league’s worst record after a five-year dynastic run. Hey, sports aren’t easy sometimes.
As for Williams, he and the Heels currently trail Notre Dame 36-33 at halftime on ESPN.
