Story: UNC looked strong all night and moved into a tie for third place in the ACC with NC State and Virginia at 8-5, while Georgia Tech drops to 4-9 in conference play. James Michael McAdoo posted his fourth 20-point game and his 9th double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. No one for the Yellow Jackets could get it going, with freshmen Marcus Georges-Hunt and Chris Bolden being the only players in double figures with 12 apiece.

Carolina held a 36-30 halftime lead despite being outshot by Georgia Tech (43.8% to 37.8%) and outrebounded 24-21. The Yellow Jackets were an astounding 0-6 from the free throw line in the first half while the Tar Heels surprisingly made 5-6. The second half was all UNC as GT never got going and turned the ball over 19 times compared to UNC’s modest seven. Carolina shot 14-17 free throws despite being second to last in the conference in free throw percentage, whereas Georgia Tech ranks last and shot a terrible 4-11 from the line.
