UNC Reporter Calls Bill Belichick's Odds Of Getting Job 'Extremely Unlikely'
Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick interviewed for a coaching position this week but it wasn't in the NFL.
Belichick interviewed with North Carolina's football program for its head coach position this week after the school fired Mack Brown following a down season.
According to UNC reporter Andrew Carter, Even though Belichick appeared to crush the interview, it's still "extremely unlikely" that he will get the job.
"Am told Belichick’s interest is high, and genuine. But extremely unlikely to happen due to his age (72) and lack of college experience," Carter tweeted.
Belichick is one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time and was with the Patriots for over two decades before the two sides parted ways after the 2023 season. The Patriots had just missed the playoffs for the third time in the last four years and were ready for a change.
Despite the struggles at the end of his tenure, he still helped the Patriots win six Super Bowls, tied for the most in NFL history alongside the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He's a brilliant football mind that's looking to get back into coaching after taking this year off but it's still more likely that he returns to the NFL than go to college. There will be multiple teams looking for a new head coach once the regular season ends, opening the door for Belichick to get interviews and potentially be hired.
North Carolina finished the 2024 season with a 6-6 record and will play in a bowl game once those matchups get finalized this weekend.
