How far the Tar Heels have fallen. After a stunning loss to the Duke Blue Devils last Saturday, North Carolina is in major trouble against Wake Forest at the half on Tuesday night.
Rivalry games can typically make or break an entire season for some programs. North Carolina, in particular, is having a miserable season – but UNC’s overtime loss to Duke last Saturday was the nail in the coffin.
Roy Williams’ Tar Heels have the slimmest of chances of reaching the NCAA Tournament. That glum fate appears to be having a major impact on North Carolina players on Tuesday night.
UNC is currently trailing Wake Forest 44-26 at the half. The Demon Deacons are fired up – as they should be. This would be a massive win for the program.

The Demon Deacons are just 10-13 overall and 3-10 in ACC play, good for last place in the conference. But it’s not like the Tar Heels are in a much better spot.
North Carolina is also 10-13, but has just one less conference loss this season (3-9 in ACC play). But if Wake Forest can knock off the Tar Heels, UNC will slide down to second-to-last place in the conference.
It’s been a bizarre season of college hoops. But North Carolina’s horrific season is by far the most startling story-line of the year.
