For anyone who is disappointed that Notre Dame football is remaining independent, the new deal that the ACC and the Orange Bowl are working out could be great news. ESPN is reporting that the deal, which seems close to being finalized, will allow Notre Dame to be chosen to play in the Orange Bowl against an ACC opponent if the FIghting Irish don’t make the national semifinals.
Although Notre Dame has a great shot at playing in a BCS bowl with this new proposal, the Orange Bowl could also select an SEC or Big Ten opponent. How the Orange Bowl will select an opponent is still unclear, but Notre Dame’s chances of making BCS bowl game will probably be better than they have been in years past.
If all goes well, the deal will be finalized soon, and the changes will start taking place in the 2014 post-season.
