It was a tough opening weekend for the ACC, both on the scoreboard and in the injury department. Star Clemson wideout Mike Williams broke a bone in his neck, and will be sidelined for quite some time. Now, we're learning that Pittsburgh's James Conner, arguably the best running back in the league, has an MCL injury and will need surgery. He's going to miss the season, per ESPN's Brett McMurphy.
The news comes as a surprise, given the fact that Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi told reporters that Conner was "fine"after the team's contest against Youngstown State.
In the victory, Conner, who ran for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns a year ago, put up 77 yards and two scores on just eight carries.
