Syracuse Basketball Lands Commitment From ECU Transfer Elijah Hughes

Syracuse basketball is adding a big guard from the state of New York, by way of the ECU Pirates: guard Elijah Hughes.

Scout's Mike McAllister first broke the news on Twitter.

Hughes appears to confirm the report, with this orange emoji tweet.

He spoke to's Mike Waters about his decision, which comes during a visit to SU.

Hughes said he made up his mind after visiting the SU campus on Wednesday and then sitting down with his family on Thursday morning.

"I sat down and thought about it and just decided that Syracuse was the right spot,'' Hughes said.

Hughes, who is listed at 6-foot-6, should be a good fit at the top of Jim Boeheim's vaunted zone. He will sit out next season, and have three years of eligibility remaining starting in 2018-2019.

As a freshman at ECU, Hughes played just over 20 minutes a game for the Pirates, averaging 7.8 points on 34.9-percent shooting from the floor. Hughes is originally from Beacon, New York, and played alongside new teammate Matthew Moyer, an Orange wing that redshirted last season, at South Kent Prep in Connecticut.
