ESPN Uses Photo Of Former New Jersey Net Duane Washington In Tweet About Death Of Dwayne "Pearl" Washington

An ESPN sign hanging that's very old

When sending a tweet about the death of a beloved star, make sure you aren't using a photo of someone with a similar name. In its tweet about the passing of legendary Syracuse point guard Dwayne "Pearl" Washington, ESPN accidentally used a photo of one of his former New Jersey Nets teammates, the similarly named Duane Washington.

The two guards shared a backcourt for New Jersey in 1988, and the same photo ESPN used was also mislabeled by Getty Images as "Duane 'Pearl' Washington," so you can see where the mistake came from, but it is still quite careless.
