Ranking The 15 ACC Basketball Teams By Ticket Demand, According To StubHub

Who will fans pay to see?

As we approach the end of the college football season and 2013 winds down, it's time for us to get excited about the start of conference play in college basketball. While a handful of conference games have come and gone, the vast majority of them are yet to be played, and many leagues tip off conference play in the first week of January.

So which teams are fans really excited to see? Over the next several days, we're going to go conference by conference to look at the ticket demand across the college basketball landscape. Our formula is simple: we've found the cheapest tickets for every single conference game on StubHub in order to determine which games are the most in-demand -- if the cheapest ticket to get in the door is expensive, you know fans really want to be there.

First up is the ACC -- here are the 15 teams ranked by their average ticket price, including both home and away conference games. Put bluntly, this is how much fans of each team are willing to pay to watch their favorite program live:

A Few Final Notes:

  • There is an astonishing gap between the top and bottom teams when it comes to ticket prices -- a fan could attend 14 Miami games for the price of a single Duke game (by average ticket price). The irony? Miami won the ACC last season.
  • Stadium size plays a significant role in the price of and demand for tickets. Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium only has 9,314 seats, while Syracuse's Carrier Dome features 34,616 -- there are simply far more tickets available at certain venues.
  • The single most expensive game we found was no surprise: North Carolina vs. Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The cheapest StubHub tickets available for that game cost a whopping $1,149 -- more than what it would cost to see every conference game for 13 of the 15 teams on the list.
