Earlier: College football has already seen one coaching legend (Steve Spurrier) step down mid-season, and another one may be leaving soon as well.

According to FoxSports910's Mike Jurecki, Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer is retiring at season's end, and has already begun the process of informing his staff.

This move is one that has been speculated for some time as Beamer's teams have struggled to a 22-17 record the past three seasons. Prior to that, the Hokies had won 10 or more games every year from 2004-2011.

For his career in Blacksburg, Beamer is currently 234-120-2 with a 10-12 record in bowl games. He took the Hokies to the BCS title game following the 1999 season, where they lost to Florida State.
