Virginia Tech was shocked by Old Dominion yesterday. A bad weekend for the Hokies got even worse moments ago with the dismissal of one of the team's top defensive players.

VT head coach Justin Fuente announced that defensive lineman Trevon Hill has been dismissed from the team, effective immediately. Fuente cited Hill's inability to "uphold the high standards" that we have for our student-athletes at Virginia Tech."

"I will always put the interests of Virginia Tech and our team first, no matter how difficult those decisions may be," Fuente said in a statement.

In just three games this season, Hill recorded 11 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He made six stops and picked up 1.5 sacks yesterday against ODU. Less than one hour ago, Hill was tweeting out motivational messages on his personal Twitter account.

We'll have to see what caused Hill to be dismissed. Whatever it was, it was enough for Fuente to act quickly.

Hill's loss could be felt over the next two weeks, as VT has critical games coming up at Duke and home against Virginia Tech.
