The Final Four is slated to take place this weekend and there are some really compelling matchups to look forward to. Naturally, the predictions have already started pouring in and the computers have an early idea of who will be meeting in the title game.
The first matchup will be the Michigan State Spartans against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. While Michigan State is making its eighth Final Four appearance under head coach Tom Izzo, Texas Tech is making its first-ever appearance in the round.
ESPN’s computer model projects that the Spartans have a 60.7-percent chance of winning the game, and are are expected to win by 2.7 points.
The other matchup will pit No. 1 Virginia against No. 5 Auburn. The Cavaliers have recovered from their humiliating defeat in the Round of 64 last year and stormed their way to their first Final Four since 1984. The Tigers are making their first-ever appearance in the Final Four and got there after beating a murderer’s row of Kansas, UNC, and Kentucky.
The computer model projects that the Cavaliers have a 79.7-percent chance of winning the game, and are expected to win by 7.8 points.
As for the rest of the tournament, Virginia is currently the betting favorite to win it all, with Michigan State coming in second.
The Spartans are the only team with experience in the NCAA title game, having won it all in 2000 and finishing second in 2009. They also own the distinction of being the only team in the Final Four that has beaten the Duke Blue Devils.
The Final Four games will tip off on Saturday night on CBS.
